Bergamasco
The Bergamasco is a unique and ancient breed of herding dog originating from the Italian Alps. They were traditionally used for herding and guarding livestock. Bergamascos are medium-sized dogs with a muscular build and a distinctive coat that forms mats or "flocks." Their coat is made up of three types of hair: a coarse outer coat, a dense middle coat, and a fine and woolly undercoat. The mats in their coat provide protection from the elements and potential predators. Bergamascos are intelligent, loyal, and independent dogs. They require regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom. While they can adapt to indoor living, they need space to move around comfortably. Bergamascos form strong bonds with their families and can be protective, making them good guard dogs. Their unique coat requires regular maintenance to prevent matting and ensure its health and appearance. Proper socialization and early training are crucial for this breed.
